General Information

Mission Statement

The mission of the Women Build department of Habitat for Humanity International is to work through affiliates to recruit and train women to build simple, decent, healthy and affordable houses.

The Women Build program was established to encourage the involvement of women in the construction of houses. Women make up 50 percent of Habitat’s volunteer force, yet often because of lack of training they account for less than 15 percent of workers on the construction site. The Women Build program was designed both to teach women the fundamental skills required to manage basic home repairs, and to empower women in the struggle against poverty housing worldwide.

Quick Facts

- Women Build is not about excluding men; it’s about including women.
- By planning projects where the majority of volunteers are women, Women Build involves more women in Habitat’s construction efforts, thereby increasing the number of houses Habitat can build.
- Women Build is not about promoting feminist issues. Our only goal is to increase the number of capable, confident people willing to join the fight against poverty housing.
